JGU welcomes Indian Army’s ‘Victory Flame’ for 20th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas

O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) warmly welcomed the ‘Victory Flame’ bound for Kargil War Memorial yesterday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Jindal Global University (JGU) warmly welcomed the ‘Victory Flame’ bound for Kargil War Memorial yesterday to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.  The torch was brought to the varsity by a team of Indian Army along with JGU runners. JGU is the first point of halt for the victory flame. Nation building is deep rooted in every activity of the Jindal group. JGU Chancellor, Mr Naveen Jindal firmly believes in the university’s commitment towards betterment of society.     

Prof. Dr. Sanjeev P. Sahni, Principal Director Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS), JGU and the chief guest to the event said, “We are extremely happy and privileged to host the Victory Flame of the Indian Army at the OP Jindal Global University. In fact, our university has been long associated with the Indian Army through initiative programs like ‘Partnering for Nation Building’ which collaborated with the Indian Army for special benefits.”

Extending a warm welcome to the delegation on campus, Lt. Gen Dr. Rajesh Kochhar (retd), Senior Director, Jindal Institute of Leadership Development and Executive Education (JILDEE) said “The day since then is celebrated every year as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate the saga of valour and sacrifices of the martyrs during this operation. We, at JGU, are very proud to host this event today to mark the 20th anniversary of the successful culmination of ‘Operation Vijay’ wherein brave soldiers of the Indian Army overcame seemingly insurmountable odds, hostile terrain, weather, and a determined enemy occupying dominating heights to win the Kargil war.”

Major Vikram Balraj Singh paid his solemn tribute to the soldiers who were martyred during Kargil conflict of 1999. He also spoke about the sacrifice of our brave soldiers who had gained control of 60 days of consistent battle. He further stated that the sacrifice and gallant of each martyr should inspire citizen of our country to protect honour and independence of our country which was achieved after a long struggle. The Victory Flame will go through 11 town and cities before reaching the Dras War Memorial in Jammu and Kashmir where personnel of Indian Army and families of martyrs will pay their tribute on the occasion.
