UGC Grants Autonomous Status to Pune’s Modern College

The Modern College of Science, Arts, and Commerce, Shivajinagar has got autonomous status from the University Grants Commission(UGC).

The Modern College of Science, Arts, and Commerce, Shivajinagar has got autonomous status from the University Grants Commission(UGC). The notification for this has been sent to Savitribai Phule Pune University(SPPU) on May 7. The autonomy status has been granted for a period of 10 years, and will be effective from the academic year 2019-20.     

Gajanan Ekbote, chairman of Progressive Education Society, which runs the college, “The certificate for all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses will have the stamps of both the college and SPPU. So, students need not be worried. And considering that our students come from different walks of life, the fee hike will be between 5 and 10 per cent.”   

Rajendra Zunjarrao, principal of the college said, “The syllabus for first year UG courses and part I of PG courses will be changed partially from the coming academic year. In the next couple of years, we plan to start new UG and PG courses.” He further added that it was working on it for past six months. They had started to construct a 11-storied building in their campus from which we have 280 classrooms. This construction will be complete in three phases.   

He further added that the development of online examination centre in under process with 100 computers. Under continuous evaluation system, more examination reforms will be made. After a tie-up with University of Melbourne, Australia, the college also plans many more such tie-ups with international universities.
